Sometimes, while we are eating, it’s difficult to resist giving our dogs some food when they look at us with those pleading eyes. However, we might forget that some human foods can be harmful to dogs. In this blog post, we will explore foods that we should not give to dogs.

1. Chocolate contains theobromine and caffeine, which are toxic to dogs, it can make them sick, causing vomiting, diarrhoea, and seizures.

2. Chicken bones can be considered dangerous, Splintered chicken bones can cause harm to a dog’s mouth, throat, and the lining of the digestive system.

3. Alcohol is extremely toxic to dogs and can cause vomiting, diarrhoea, difficulty breathing, tremors, coma, and can lead to death.

4. Grapes and Raisins can cause kidney failure Symptoms may include vomiting, diarrhoea, lethargy, and loss of appetite.

5. Onions and garlic, whether raw, cooked, or powdered, contain compounds that can damage a dog’s red blood cells, leading to anaemia. Symptoms of onion or garlic toxicity include weakness, lethargy, vomiting, and breathlessness.

6. Food with a salty taste, If they receive an excessive amount of salt, it will cause dehydration, followed by frequent urination. Signs indicating that dogs have received too much salt are starting to vomit, having diarrhoea, body temperature increasing, trembling, seizures, and eventually death.

7. Milk and dairy products, dogs lack the enzyme to digest lactose in cow’s milk, these products can cause diarrhoea.

8. Peanuts (Macadamia nuts) contain toxins that are dangerous to both dogs and cats, as they can cause weakness, tremors, seizures, and vomiting. Symptoms typically appear about 12 hours after ingestion and can last up to 48 hours.

9. Xylitol is used as a sweetener in many products such as gum, candy, and soft drinks. This substance increases insulin levels in the body of animals, leading to low blood sugar levels. The first signs are usually vomiting and lethargy, progressing to tremors, and ultimately, liver failure.
